Any one own and use a pressure cooker? Are they useful?

Question by cccccc: Any one own and use a pressure cooker? Are they useful?
I was thinking of buying one. I usually love to braise meats... Would I like a pressure cooker?
Lizzie, may I ask what brand you have?

If you get one the first meal you should make would be ribs covered in BBQ sauce. The meat falls right off the bone and it is very useful. Im 17 almost 18 and when i cook i love that, it can make the best soup you have ever had or the tastiest meat dinner to ever enter your mouth. Its a very good idea to get one, you will fall in love i almost grantee<3

I got it for Christmas 2 years ago and its been my love since.

  3. Great thing to have. We just cooked a big pot of beef vegetable soup in ours, and as always it turned out good. We simmer our beef (any kind that is economical) in water in a skillet with several beef bullion cubes while we add our ingredients to the cooker. We add diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, canned beans, canned whole corn, okra, potatoes, and anything else that we think of, and add the simmered meat and water if needed. We season it with Cavenders, salt and pepper. We put the weight on the cooker to the highest pressure and cook until it starts to let off steam, lower the heat and cook for 15 minutes, turn the heat off, and when it cools enough to remove the lid it will be done. What we don't eat or share, we freeze to eat later. We have a Mirro cooker that we have had for over 20 years. Good Luck

We always use ours at thanksgiving for mashed potatoes as they cook so quickly. Looks like we are missing out on a lot of other great uses.

  5. We bought an electric pressure cooker and it works great. Cheaper cuts of meat come out great as do the veggies. The other thing is the time to cook is reduced. I wouldn't be without one. Has to be the electric type though, not the stove top. Removable pan makes for easy cleaning.

  6. I don't have one anymore but did find it useful for many things. Definetly speeds cooking time but is not for everything. Foods that cook quickly anyway are too easily over cooked. But for tough cuts of meat it's great. Also for canning which was the original reason I had one.
