Did I break the stove top?

Question by !: Did I break the stove top?
I was making a soup and used a pressure cooker (I didn't know what it was or how to use it) I took the top off while boiling and water splashed on the stove top which put out the fire. I wiped it up and tried using another circle and it wouldn't turn on. Should I give it more time or is it broken?
It ignites before the fire can be set by the way. I'm not sure if gas or electric

If you can't tell whether it's gas or electric then you shouldn't be in the kitchen never mind use a pressure cooker. Take 3 steps away from the stove and leave the house in case you left the gas on if it was gas.

  1. honey if actual flames come out of the burner, it is a gas stove....Electric stove has NO flames.
Your boiling soup got things wet so it won't light.
Wait a while and try later.

If there was an actual Flame then you have GAS.

If it is just a round coil then you have ELECTRIC.

You should know that before you even go to turn it on.

If you had a flame/gas then you need to relight it. That means carefully turn it on low, light a match and move the match to wards the burner when it lights it will make a little noise but it should be fine.

Before you do this though, turn the burner OFF, blow around the burner or even oven a window for a few minutes then proceded. If you do not do this you could have a BIG explosion.
