Question by Bobby: How do I avoid condensed water on my ceiling after having cooking brown beans for 2 hours?
I cooked then in a normal pot and had to repaint my kitchen. How do I avoid this next time?

b. Why would you repaint when you could have simply cleaned this? You have to clean it to paint, why no simply clean it?

  1. put a lid on the pot - you will then be able to reduce the heat and save fuel costs too

  2. If there's an exhaust fan over the stove, use it, and put a lid on the pot.

  3. Try some of these ideas:

    ...use a lower heat...just a few bubbles rising is plenty
    ...put a lid on the pot; you can leave a tiny opening if you want
    ...put something loosely over the pot like a sheet of aluminum foil...the steam will condense there (you can pour it off every so often or just let it drip onto the area around your pot, where you can put a towel, etc if you want) ...or tape a big sheet of aluminum foil to the ceiling directly over the pot, or pin a (fabric) sheet by its 4 corners to the area and let it balloon down a bit so it isn't touching the ceiling
    ...create ventilation or turn on a fan to help the steam evaporate more and sooner

    ...heat the beans on the stove just to get them to the boiling stage, then put the lid on and finish cooking in an oven on low heat (200-325 F)...you'll need to be using a pot that can be put in an oven, or put the beans in an oven-safe container for this part (or just cover the handles with foil if they're plastic)

    ...cook the beans in an electric slow cooker

    ...cook the beans in a pressure cooker (not over half full and put a bit of oil in the water)

    ...soak them overnight, then you often won't have to cook quite that long to prepare them

    (Your kitchen must be small and the climate or room humid for that to happen though?)

  5. I cook beans on the stove top and have never had them end up on the ceiling.........I am not sure why you asked this question twice... but cook at a lower temp...or cook covered..but if you do lower the temp so they don't boil over................

  6. Have adequate air circulation in your kitchen when you're cooking, for example:
    Extractor fans
    Open a window
    Open a door
    The only reason condensed water was on your ceiling was because the steam in your kitchen couldn't escape.
