Hubby cant lose weight?

Question by Microwaved Tofu!: Hubby cant lose weight?
I'm helping my husband lose 50lbs. We are diet buddies. We've been on low calorie diets with no dining out, low carbs, low fat. We do light aerobics for at least 30 minutes a day, everyday. Ive lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks but he's only lost 2. What would be a good way to jump start his weight loss..he is thinking about going to a doc. Just wanted some opinions first.

Try getting him on a light weight lifting program as well as the cardio. Nothing to crazy. Men's bodies react really well to building muscle. Also make sure you both are getting lots of water.

  1. Try the HCG Diet I'm on it and I lost 14 pounds in one week but you have to go see your Doctor about the Diet... Here is more info about it go to www.hcgdietinfo.com

  2. 2 weeks isn't that long. I would give it more time, before getting too concerned.
My husband had a heart attack 7 months ago.
We have completely changed our eating habits.
I have changed my eating habits to help support my husband,
who has cardiovascular disease. I Can't say that it has hurt me any, since I was 30 lbs overweight myself.
We were just the opposite of you and your husband. My husband lost several pounds quite quickly and mine is coming off very slowly. I have lost 17 lbs. of my weight now. I exercise on a mini trampoline. It is the best exercise that I have found that keeps me motivated to exercise. Find an excercise that you can stick with. Everyone is different, it's finding what works for you that you can stick with.
We eat mostly vegetarian now. I allow us to have 1-2 meals a week with meat and it can only be fish or poultry.
We have no cheese, sour cream or ice cream in our refridgerator (and only on rare occassion will eat a bit of white cheese) white cheeses are lower in cholesterol then yellow).
I told my husband, we now "Eat to live not live to eat".
We have learned about a whole new world of foods. We have even learned to make homemade Humus (and we really like it). We didn't even know what humus was before. We cook all of our own beans in an electric pressure cooker instead of buying them in cans to cut down on our sodium intake.
An electric pressure cooker is kind of spendy but a very good investment for your health. I can cook black beans or kidney beans for dishes or chick peas for humus in 25 minutes and they are wonderful. We have replaced white flour with whole wheat flour. We use honey and Agava to replace white sugar, and we drink no soda pop (no exceptions).
A year or so ago,I watched something on the web about an elderly man who is refered to as "Banana George". He still water ski's and is very active. You can Go to a web site called www.growingbolder.com and see video about him. He said that he eats no white flour, no sugar and no soda pop. I always remembered that...because my goal is to be healthy in my old age. It's not just about losing weight, we want to be healthy too.
Be sure that you are drinking enough water. Its hard, but an important thing to learn to do.
I too was concerned why my weight was not coming off very quickly. But with time I can see that it is happening even if it is slowly. Besides, it is best for your weight to come off slowly. If you have had your weight on for quite awhile, things just kind of sag if it comes off too quickly.
My husband was concerned about his jowls because they were a bit saggy after losing weight. I told him that I thought that they would firm up with time. They have. So you see there are some advantages to losing the weight at a slower pace. Our metabolism slows down as we age. Some peoples more than others. You just have to be persistant and show your body that you are serious and with time it will happen. I had several fad diet books on my shelf and I threw them all out. To lose the weight and keep it off it can't be just a diet, it has to be a life change. Like your husband, my weight comes off alot slower than I think it should. I am thinking that my thyroid may be off a bit. I am going to start taking kelp capsules for that. I have had my thyroid checked before, and it checked out O.K., but I have read that thyroid tests are not always accurate if your thyroid is slightly off.
When you start eating good wholesome foods, that is what you find yourself starting to crave. I Never thought I'd see the day when I would actually crave an apple to satisfy a sweet tooth. Stick with it and it will happen for you and your husband.
    ~Good Luck to you both~

  3. When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It's not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

  4. Don't be afraid to ask for a healthier version of something on the menu or for something that isn't on the menu.
