Should I buy an electric food steamer?

Question by Hello: Should I buy an electric food steamer?
How often do you cook with an electric food steamer

Best answer:

Answer by JQuick
I have an electric steamer that I haven't used in about 10 years. That's because I learned that a pressure cooker with a steamer basket is better. A pressure cooker traps the steam to increase the temperature of cooking from 212deg.F. to above 250deg.F. A steamer justs wastes most of the steam that the pressure cooker uses. Plus a stovetop pressure cooker pot can be cleaned in the dishwasher, unlike an electric steamer. A pressure cooker pot can be used as a regular pot without the pressure, so it serves many purposes besides steaming. A steamer is a single function appliance.

Electric oven keeps items under pressure. Like using a pressure cooker. Electric oven consumes less electricity. Temperature in oven at anytime is constant. Electric tanduri is like an open stove.. Consumes more electricity and temperature varies.

Trying to decide what kind of pressure cooker to buy, stovetop or electric?

Question by cunnys_bunny1: Trying to decide what kind of pressure cooker to buy, stovetop or electric?
I thought about electric as that way you can go out and leave it but wonder if that would be safe leaving it on the stovetop? Pro's and cons of each would be great?

Also which brand to buy? I would rather pay extra and get something that will last.

Any hints/tips would be appreciated :)

Google consumer reports or just "top rated pressure cookers". You'll find a lot more well-researched info that way. Also you can try America's Test Kitchen because they do a great job of rating equipment. However, they also want you to join the site so not everything is free.

Can I use this pressure cooker on a electric stove?

Question by jon: Can I use this pressure cooker on a electric stove?
I have a new pressure cooker and in the manual it says in french:
"source a chaufrage: a flamme"
and
"ne se placer sur un plaque electrique"

the pot is made from aluminimum.

does that mean it can ONLY be used on a flame? no normal e-stove?
what would happen if I still use it with my normal e-stove, would that be dangerous?

its this model: ttp://www.ebay.at/itm/SCHNELLKOCHTOPF-CLASSIC-20-LITER-PRESSION-COCOTTE-MINUTE-NEU-NEU-NEU-/251244981372?pt=DE_Haus_Garten_Kochen_Geniessen&hash=item3a7f5e2c7c

If one machine can do the work of 3, get it. I don't like the Deni brand myself, but I noticed on the side (their commercial type crap that pops up) that Cuisinart sells one for $ 148. I'd go with that one. Just the rep with that name is worth $ 9.

Does anyone out there own a Cuisinart electric pressure cooker?

Question by Bear: Does anyone out there own a Cuisinart electric pressure cooker?
If so, do you have trouble getting the lid to lock on? I mean, it seems like it is locking into place. Then when it starts to come up to pressure steam starts coming out of the steam release and then from the side of the handle and it never comes up to pressure. I have to stop it and take the lid off and try it again. Is there a trick to it or something?

i don't have a Cuisinart but have used alot of pressure cookers. that is a known problem with pressure cookers. i found that if i soaked my rubber gasket in hot water for 5 - 10 minutes and then wipe it off really good to make sure there isn't anything on it, it would seal alot better. they do take some getting used to.
